Email yourself the Profit & Loss Prev Year Comparison Report

Compare this year's performance to last year's, to make sure your company is on the right track!


The QuickBooks Profit and Loss Prev Year Comparison Report can provide insight into how your revenue is growing or contracting, as well as how fast expenses are rising:



To automatically email the Profit and Loss Prev Year Comparison Report from ActiveBooks:

  1. Download, install and configure ActiveBooks, if necessary.

  2. Start ActiveBooks.

  3. Select Notification > Add to open the Add Notification window:

  4. On the General tab:

    • Select the company file you wish to use in the Using field.

    • In the Send the field, choose Profit and Loss Prev Year Comparison Report from the list.

    • The For field will show This Fiscal Year-to-date, the default period for this report. Stick with the default to get the "long" view, or you can compare performance by quarter or month if you prefer.

    • Enter your email address in the To field. Feel free to add additional recipients -- just separate each with a comma (,).

    • Finally, configure when and how often to email the report. The first of each month seems like the right cadence but you can pick weekly or quarterly if that works better for you. And we've selected six AM so that we can review the results first thing, with a strong cup of coffee!

  5. We're done setting up the report so click the Save >> button to record the settings. After a couple of seconds, an entry for Profit and Loss Prev Year Comparison Report (This Fiscal Year-to-date) will show up in the ActiveBooks window.

  6. That's it! Your Profit and Loss Prev Year Comparison Report will now be automatically emailed to you every month on the first (at 6 in the morning). Feel free to preview the report (by selecting Notification > Preview...), or update it to change the time, add an email address, etc.
