Getting an error message from ActiveBooks?

This page describes the most common errors that you may encounter when using ActiveBooks. Please be sure to contact us if you come across an error not on the list.




Error Message Meaning/Solution
QuickBooks found an error when parsing the provided XML text stream. This is an internal ActiveBooks error. Please contact us and let us know what you were trying to do when this error occurred.
Could not access QuickBooks. ActiveBooks is unable to communicate with QuickBooks. Please ensure that you can run QuickBooks normally, and consult QuickBooks support if not.
Could not open the specified QuickBooks company data file. QuickBooks was unable to access your company file. Please ensure that you can run QuickBooks normally, and consult QuickBooks support if not.
The version of QuickBooks currently running does not support qbXML. ActiveBooks supports only QuickBooks Enterprise, Premier or Pro Editions, U.S. and Canadian Versions 2009- 2011. Please ensure that you are using one of these.
Could not start QuickBooks. This can indicate any of several problems. It is usually followed by another, more specific message. Please look up that other message in the table to find out what to do.
The current version of QuickBooks cannot work with the specified company data file. Have you upgraded QuickBooks recently? Perhaps the company file needs to be upgraded as well. Please ensure that you can run QuickBooks normally, and consult QuickBooks support if not.
QuickBooks company data file is already open and it is different from the one requested. QuickBooks is already running and can only work with one company file at a time. If you use multiple company files, ActiveBooks will only work when QuickBooks is not running, or if the configured company file is open in QuickBooks.
There is not enough memory to complete the request. Please ensure that you can run QuickBooks normally, and consult QuickBooks support if not.
A modal dialog box is showing in the QuickBooks user interface. Your application cannot access QuickBooks until the user dismisses the dialog box. Please ensure that the dialog box is dismissed.
This application has not accessed this QuickBooks company data file before. Only the QuickBooks administrator can grant an application permission to access a QuickBooks company data file for the first time. QuickBooks has not properly granted access to ActiveBooks. Please choose Configure QuickBooks... from the Tools menu and repeat the QuickBooks setup.
This application does not have permission to access this QuickBooks company data file. The QuickBooks administrator can grant access permission through the Integrated Application preferences. QuickBooks has not properly granted access to ActiveBooks. Please choose Configure QuickBooks... from the Tools menu and repeat the QuickBooks setup.
An internal QuickBooks error occurred while trying to access the QuickBooks company data file. This is a catch-all error from QuickBooks. Please contact us and let us know what you were trying to do when this error occurred.
This application is not allowed to log into this QuickBooks company data file automatically. The QuickBooks administrator can grant permission for automatic login through the Integrated Application preferences. QuickBooks has not properly granted access to ActiveBooks. Please choose Configure QuickBooks... from the Tools menu and repeat the QuickBooks setup.
Invalid parameter. This is a catch-all error from QuickBooks. Please contact us and let us know what you were trying to do when this error occurred.
The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password. ActiveBooks was unable to start QuickBooks as the user specified on the Configure ActiveBooks... window (available from the Tools menu). Please ensure that the user is an administrator, can log into Windows interactively, and can run QuickBooks normally.
The integrated application has no permission to access personal data. The QuickBooks administrator can grant permission to access personal data through the Integrated Application preferences. QuickBooks is not allowing ActiveBooks to access personal data (for payroll reports, etc.). To fix the problem:
  1. Start QuickBooks and switch to single user mode.
  2. Select Edit > Preferences... to open the Preferences window.
  3. Highlight the Integrated Applications section and tab over to the Company Preferences area.
  4. Select ActiveBooks from the list and click the Properties... button.
  5. Check the Allow this application to access Social Security Numbers... and other personal data box near the bottom.
  6. Click OK a couple of times to confirm your changes.
